Member Survey Results

We received thirty-four (34) responses, which represents 15% of our current membership (16% after deducting the eleven Board of Directors, who did not participate to avoid skewing the results). Although 15% to 16% may seem like a low turnout, this is actually an unusually high response rate for a voluntary, anonymous survey. Thanks to this large sampling, statistically speaking we can have confidence that the survey provides an accurate view of our membership. Armed with this new information, the Board can make more informed judgments on how to better serve Chapter members.

Member Profile:

88% of you have belonged to APICS for three years or more

77% enjoy a membership paid for by their Employer

However, only 55% receive reimbursement for attending PDMs (monthly dinner meetings)

67% of our members work in Manufacturing while 21% report being in the Service Industries

Member Benefits:

When we asked participants to rank a selection of Membership benefits, we were surprised: members valued Chapter provided benefits consistently above Society benefits. This is how they stacked up (from Most important to Least important):

  1. Chapter Newsletter
  2. Certification Program
  3. Chapter Website
  4. Chapter PDMs
  5. Chapter Seminars
  6. Certification Workshops
  7. Society Website
  8. Job Banks
  9. Society Magazine
  10. Society Seminars
  11. International Conference

Dinner Meetings:

Although Chapter PDMs were ranked fourth in importance on the list above, attendance at monthly dinner meetings has fallen off significantly over the past few years. This issue was the focus for some of the other survey questions.

37% report that they attend five or more meetings each season while
38% attend one to three meetings and the
25% remaining never attend

42% explained that they don’t attend PDMs because of a Conflict on Tuesdays while
20% do not participate as they do not receive reimbursement

Participants also gave their opinion on the types of topics they would like to see at PDMs: Basic – 60%; Advanced – 78%; Related – 53%

72% of respondents like our current level of Plant tours (two) while more tours were preferred by 28%

The Board of Directors would like to thank all of those members who helped their chapter by participating in this survey.
